Information about designs and surfaces To offer the broadest design and surface selection possible it is necessary to consider that certain references are best suited for vertical use. In other words, they are intended only for applications in which wear is not excessive.
This applies to DecoMetal and Veneer with Polyurethane and Wax finishes.
High gloss and plain (i.e. non-textured) surface finishes tend to show superficial scuff and scratch marks more readily than textured surfaces (especially when combined with dark colours) and therefore demand more care when used as work surfaces. Take due consideration of the pattern’s surface structure during specification.
When working with and installing DecoMetal laminate, make sure that all the sheets lie in the same direction since variations in appearance can arise if sheets or panels are rotated 90o or 180o in relation to each other. Under certain conditions when using fluorescent lighting there may be rainbow shimmer effects when using DecoMetal laminate. Sheets and panels should therefore be viewed under the actual lighting conditions before being fitted.
Care and maintenance Formica® can be cleaned using water and normal cleaning agents. Persistent marks can be removed using a suitable solvent such as white spirit or acetone. Abrasive cleaners (e.g. scouring powders) or acid based cleaning agents must not be used.
Stain resistance and chemical resistance Formica® laminate has good resistance to chemicals. Resistance to solvents such as alcohols, esters and ketones plus weak organic and diluted mineral acids is good. Nitric acid, concentrated mineral acids, strong alkalis and oxidising or strong, concentrated substances can cause etching or discolouration of the laminate if allowed to act over a long period.
Compact laminate In addition to our standard range of Formica® Compact there is a large selection of plain colour and patterned laminates available on request. Formica® Compact is ideal for applications where impact resistance, water and heat resistance and a minimum of maintenance are required. Contact Formica® Customer Service for more information.
