Formica Corporation Highlights Strong Sustainability Progress in 2025 Broadview Group Position Paper

Formica Corporation contributes to significant carbon reductions as Broadview Group reports 39% emissions reduction since 2019 and outlines continued environmental commitments.

We are proud to share that Broadview Materials, parent company of Formica Corporation, has released its 2025 Group Position Paper on Environmental Sustainability.

This comprehensive report brings together the sustainability progress of companies across the Broadview Materials portfolio, including Formica Corporation, and reinforces a unified, data-driven commitment to reducing environmental impact while supporting long-term growth.

Following is a short summary of the highlights and what they mean for our business and our customers. The full report is available here.

A Unified, Group-Level Approach

Beginning with the 2024 paper and continuing in 2025:

  • + Sustainability results are reported at the Group level, integrating North America into a global framework. This is to emphasize the collective efforts of all operating companies working toward shared objectives.

  • + Reporting is aligned with Europe’s stringent sustainability guidelines, ensuring consistency and transparency across regions.

Our Sustainability Philosophy in Action

The Position Paper outlines Broadview’s guiding principles:

  • + Do no harm – Measure impact using verified Life Cycle Assessment models

  • + Do good – Support customers with durable, long-life products

  • + Do better – Invest in innovation that improves both sustainability and business performance

This includes:

  • + Third-party verified LCAs and Environmental Product Declarations

  • + Replacement of fossil-based inputs with bio-based alternatives

  • + Continuous monitoring, annual reporting and integration into financial planning

Important Update on Carbon Neutrality

  • + Carbon offsets are no longer included in Formica Corporation or Broadview Materials reported emissions reduction percentages – though they do remain part of our overall sustainability strategy.

  • + This does NOT represent a strategy change, as we remain focused on reducing emissions through:

  • Increased operational efficiency

  • Replacing high-impact material inputs

  • Investing in renewable energy and bio-based materials

Group Results: Meaningful, Measurable Progress

Using Life Cycle Assessment methodology and a cradle-to-gate approach, Broadview Materials continues to deliver significant impact reductions.

Since 2019:

  • + Cradle-to-gate carbon emissions have been reduced by 39%

  • + From 2023-2024 alone, there was a 12% reduction

In addition, the Group expanded reporting to include cradle-to-grave results and transparent disclosure of biogenic carbon storage, reflecting the role of wood-based materials in long-term carbon sequestration.

Formica Corporation North America Contributions to Results

Within the integrated Group results, Formica Corporation North America also delivered strong performance:

From 2019 to 2024 (cradle-to-gate):

  • 44% reduction in carbon emissions

  • 33% reduction in primary energy demand

  • 40% reduction in water footprint

These improvements were driven primarily by targeted efficiency projects, energy optimization and operational enhancements across facilities.

Positive Momentum, Shared Responsibility

The 2025 Sustainability Position Paper reinforces an important message:
Environmental responsibility and long-term business performance go hand in hand.

By consolidating sustainability reporting at the Group level, Broadview Materials highlights the strength of collective action across its global portfolio. For Formica Corporation, this represents meaningful progress and continued commitment to reducing environmental impact through measurable, fact-based action.
